Maputo, 3 Dec (AIM) - By Friday evening, AIM was in possession of the results from 17 per cent of the 12,744 polling stations set up inside the country for Mozambique's third multi-party presidential and parliamentary elections.
These results sheets ("editais"), posted on the walls of the polling stations, show the gap between the ruling Frelimo Party, and its main rival, Renamo, widening rather than shrinking.
While it is true that there are still many editais from rural areas in Renamo strongholds in the central provinces that are still to be included in this parallel count, it is also true that it will be very difficult for Renamo to close the current gap.
The results so far (as of 19.30 on
Friday), as gathered by AIM from its own correspondents, and from Radio Mozambique,
are as follows:

the results for the minor parties are almost insignificant.
