London, 24 February (AIM) - A major earthquake shook Mozambique just after midnight on Thursday morning.
According to Radio Mozambique the quake was centred near the village of Espungabera. The radio station reported that four people are confirmed to have died, with 27 people injured.
The US Geological Survey National Earthquake Information Centre reports that the earthquake was of a magnitude 7.5 on the Richter scale. This makes it the largest earthquake in Mozambique since records began.
The quake was felt as far away as South Africa, Zambia, Swaziland and Zimbabwe, and there have been several aftershocks which could continue to occur for several days..
